The ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System is the international standard that enables organisations to control their environmental impacts and continually improve their environmental performance. CMB Consultancy offers certification services through accredited certification bodies to organisations that want to obtain ISO 14001.

What Is ISO 14001?

The ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System is a management system created to protect the environment and nature and published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It was developed to identify environmental aspects throughout the process from the purchase of raw materials to the finished product, and to minimise harm to the environment by bringing these aspects under control.

The ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System is based on monitoring and continually improving environmental performance. It requires compliance with the conditions defined by the relevant legislation and laws on environmental aspects. Organisations can keep their interactions with the environment under control by implementing an environmental management system. ISO 14001 is a system standard rather than a product standard; it is concerned less with what is produced than with how it is produced and through which stages.

In essence, the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System is a management system model built on risk analysis that aims to reduce the use of natural resources and minimise harm to soil, water and air. One of its most important elements is ensuring compliance with legal requirements and, where necessary, having essential measurements such as emission and flue gas analysis, dust measurement and noise measurement carried out and reported by laboratories authorised by the competent Ministry.

The ISO 14001 Environmental Management System has become an important measure of the value and respect given to people and the environment for anyone who wants to compete in the global market. Today’s consumers expect not only their needs and expectations to be met to the highest standard, but also respect for themselves, their environment and their world. Many organisations that interact with the environment now set up an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System to minimise the environmental impact of their activities and, by meeting its requirements, obtain the ISO 14001 environmental certificate.

With ISO 14001:2015/Amd 1:2024, published in February 2024, climate change has been added to the issues to be considered when assessing the organisation’s context.

Who Can Implement ISO 14001?

The ISO 14001 Environmental Management System standard is increasingly seen almost as a passport for products and services by organisations that want to earn a respected place in national and international markets. It can be implemented by all organisations and manufacturers that provide products and services, especially industrial and public organisations.

Because ISO 14001 shares the same high-level structure as the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, it can be implemented together with these standards as an integrated management system.
